I saw this picture in an old Cottage Living (miss you!) and recognized the art I used in a past project on Daniel Island. It is interesting how many different ways this art can be hung and I like that you can still get a somewhat custom/unique look with store bought art.

Mirrors In Unexpected Places

I must be really vain because I love mirrors. But I am not as vain as this person.

And I am liking the idea of using them in unexpected (or perhaps reinvented) ways.

We recently installed an antique mirror backsplash and door inserts in a client's kitchen...

The Little Black Door

Happy Place

This is a teenager's bedroom that I did a year or so ago. A local publication recently featured it in an article on the "Happy Place" in your home in their Home and Garden issue. Poor Annie, being the youngest of three girls, had always received hand-me-downs. Once her two older sister's left for college, her mom (who I had worked with throughout their home) hired me as Annie's birthday present to redecorate her room...from scratch! Since she was now thirteen, Annie wanted something more "grown up" and her mom wanted something that could eventually transition into a guest bedroom. Annie was so cute, she drew out an image of what she wanted her room to look like and was very hands-on with me as we selected fabrics and paint colors. I even gave her two blank canvases to create her very own masterpiece! I had a blast as I always do when working with children...I get to be a kid again myself! Fun, fun!

Let's face it, they make vacuuming easier, right? I had these custom nightstands made for a client because we were short on space along the awkward wall. (they are floating but it is hard to tell from this pic) And FYI, the view directly across from this bed was of the intercoastal waterway so yes, this was the only wall for the bed!!!

I put one in my powder room over the rustic wood mirror and it is pretty badass. I would take a photo but it is hard to get a good picture in a tiny powder room of a light and a mirror....something I have yet to master. I hope that a nicer camera and photography classes with combat that one day. Until then just picture my powder room being a total badass.

This is my bedroom. It is beckoning me from the next room....I am SO tired that all I can think about is my bed and that I want to be in it! I am sorry for the lame post but I have been going non-stop and I am exhausted!

Some info on my room (if anyone is at all interested)...the nightstands I found separately (each at a different flea market). I about wet myself when I found the second one and realized it was an exact match to the other one! Think I paid $15 total for both of them and had them lacquered the same (Benjamin Moore Navajo White). I still need to change out the hardware but have yet to decide on some I like....it has been four years. The headboard is a rattan product from West Elm that I had a slipcover made for because I didn't love the rattan once it arrived. I used the same linen fabric from the headboard on the panels and bedskirt (which you can't see in this pic). The ottomans are from an Eclectic upholstery line. Coverlet and shams are Pottery Barn (I hate to admit that-damn you Pottery Barn!-but I dig the paisley print and it has all my fav colors in it). Coverlet is from an Eclectic bedding line. Lamps are Arteriors. Wall color is Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue. Chair is grandma's recovered in a cream, nubby linen. Flooring is wall to wall seagrass. Sunburst mirrors....ah, can't remember! That's all you can see! Is my duvet cover driving anyone else crazy in this picture of is it just my anal retentive ass?

Time for Dinner!

I have a client that wanted some helping setting her table for her first Thanksgiving dinner. While I was at it, she suggested I go ahead and set the scene for Christmas dinner as well. Here are some pics (sorry the photos are so small!)...

It's All In The Details...

The additon of the oval detailing in these typical french doors is just BRILLIANT! I had my carpenter install an oval design in the transom of a client's home. I think he wanted to kill me with all the math involved in making them but I think they turned out great!

It's Like a Fun House!

Tom Scheerer used them as a headboard.

I used these crazy angled mirrors once in a TV Studio's office that I designed (shown below) and they were pretty easy to install. The client wanted modern, masculine and sleek and they worked perfectly to achieve the look. Plus, they really helped to bounce light around in this dark, windowless office. Like 'em?
