Before & After: Fabric Display Rack

Saturday, February 26, 2011

I bought this "thing" a few years back at an antique place in Atlanta. The lady that sold it to me said it was a sewer grate from the Netherlands??? I have no idea. But again, I am obsessed with circles and anything galvanized so I snatched it up! Then it sat in my office closet for at least three years as I had yet to figure out what I wanted to do with it. Until now...

I am using it as a rack to hold all of my fabric swatches. These swatches help me keep up with what fabrics I have in my storage closet. Each luggage tag has the fabric sample on the front with the fabric company, pattern, color and yardage on the back. I got the idea from here...

Before & After: Children's Rug

I am going to go ahead and admit that this "after" isn't really my personal style BUT as someone who dislikes all the primary colored kids stuff that is out there...I thought this IDEA was genius! Check it out...

You could do this SOOOO easily! Just tape off a design that IS your style. I would do something like this....

Or this...

Or even keep the color blocks but match it to your (or your kid's) color scheme...

Before & After: Tole Trashcan

Saturday, February 12, 2011

I have had this tole trashcan for years (think I got it at Marshall"s). I wanted to update it for my office so I could use it to hold blueprints and leftover wallpaper rolls but I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do with it exactly.

Before

So I started by spray painting it green.

Then I was going over to my friend Way Way's house of Blue Chickadee and realized she would be the perfect person to finish the job! So I handed this project over to her creative talents....

And look at what she did....

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!

Check out her post on the same project, she also mentioned a few other similar projects from other design blogs.

Check out what my friend over at Blue Chickadee did in her entry...

First she painted the green Chevron pattern.

Then she painted the door and trim the same green (Sherwin Williams Talipot Palm).

Then she added a photo gallery. So cute!

Shopping Excursion: Part 2

Some of these you will see again in "after" photos of client's homes!

In case you can't tell, I have such a schizophrenic design aesthetic. Everything I like is a mix of several opposing styles....Coastal Living (i.e. rattan furniture, coral and other natural items, coastal colors, sea inspired artwork), Domino (i.e. kitschy flea market finds and modern accessories) and Southern Accents (i.e. traditional pieces, gold framed art, Oushak rugs). Sometimes it is a stretch to blend them all together (and I am not entirely sure that I always succeed) but luckily, I named my company Eclectic so I can at least pretend, right?
