Design Crush: Angie Hranowsky

I was shocked to realize that I have yet to do a post on this fab designer...I thought I already had as I am a HUGE fan of her work! Angie is a local designer and I love to see someone mixin' it up in such a traditional town like Charleston. She started her career as a graphic designer but added interior design to her ever growing repertoire after studying at Parsons in 2004. Since then her career has flourished with many clients throughout the Southeast and Midwest. Her work has been published in several trade magazines and as I have come to realize...I have been saving these images for my idea books way before I learned who she was! Cheers to you Angie! I revel in this!!! I am SO symmetrical but I do like an asymmetrical art display (although mine still might be more like Mrs. Nisbet's!). Hanging artwork in this manner is great when you have a mis-mash of art you want to display (especially inexpensive flea market finds or various mediums of art). And I really like that it can evolve over time.

I have been working with a client who really wanted a bed canopy and I am wishing we did something this simple! She desperatly wanted her bed on an angle in the corner (despite my insistence on straightening it up between the windows) so we had that and the window treatments/hardware to contend with in the design. I'm not gonna lie, I lost a lot of sleep over this one! But she is a wonderful client, a joy to work with and I commend her for constantly pushing me out of my comfort zone. We installed the bed canopy last week and I am very pleased with how it turned out. [Photos to come.]

I spy...

Something scary. I am gonna say it....not a fan. [Let's pause for all the boo-hisses I am getting right now.] And I am so sorry to Angie because I love your work and hate to feature your images in a post on something I don't like!!! But I think they are ugly and overly trendy. However, I did a little bit of research on their meaning and I am starting to understand these little guys a bit more, at least as an art form. Clearly they are lion-like and often stand guard in front of temples, government buildings and such to act as protector and defender of law. Due to their devilish appearance, they were often put in front of tombs to ward off evil spirits. They come in many shapes, sizes and colors and obviously embody a lot of rich Chinese history. I won't go so far as to say I will never buy a pair because I also swore I would never wear skinny jeans again (oops!).
